Next Generation Authoring- validation improvements
Release date: 16th April 2025
In this release we've introduced a set of improvements to the way Next Generation Authoring handles validation. We've listened to your feedback and ensured that validation behaviour is now more closely aligned with the previous authoring experience, and added some improvements. A number of bugs have also been fixed.
About Next Generation AuthoringLink copied!
Next Generation Authoring provides an enhanced authoring experience, with features for users and developers. It's currently switched off by default and we encourage you to switch it on and start making use of the new features, including:
An enhanced "look and feel" which you get as soon as you switch it on, without any additional development
Many new developer features such as customizable input fields and schema enhancements such as conditionals
Greater control over form layout
See the What's new page for an overview of all the new features.
Improved handling of required propertiesLink copied!
In the previous content authoring experience, any required fields that do not contain values were highlighted in red as soon as the content form was opened. In Next Generation Authoring required fields without a value are now highlighted only after the user clicks "Save", or when a value is entered in a field and then deleted.
A message "Required fields are missing entries" is also shown at the top of the window until all required fields have valid values.
The example below shows how validation now works in Next Generation Authoring, including the handling of required fields and the clearer messages for invalid fields.

Arrays with minimum valuesLink copied!
A difference that should be noted between Next Generation Authoring and the previous authoring experience is that arrays configured with a minimum number of items are no longer pre-populated with empty entries.
For example, in the previous authoring experience, if an array was set to contain a minimum of 2 items, then two empty items would be added.
In Next Generation Authoring no items are added to the array by default.
